LUZALBA by Daniela S.F.

Daniela S.F. lived in Venice for eight years, where she engaged with the international art scene, collaborating with renowned artists and institutions. Her experience in Italy played a key role in shaping her artistic identity.

Upon returning to Portugal, she established her studio on the southwest coast of the Algarve. Working under the artistic name LUZALBA® (registered trademark), she developed a practice focused on sea culture and ancestral printmaking techniques. This vision led to the creation of the Fish Prints project, through which she explores and transforms local natural resources into unique artworks and design pieces.

EDUCATION

Daniela wold a degree in Design (ESAD.CR) and a postgraduate degree in Visual Arts: Sculpture (Academy of Fine Arts of Venice).

ARTIST STATEMENT

“My work is centered on the sea and the communities connected to it. Within my practice, materials shape the concept, as they are given a second life. From natural resources (like the fish) to recycled textiles, I have established a perfect harmony between my message and the environment that surrounds me. It becomes a unifying thread between the many interpreters of the sea, reimagining the territory and connecting fishing, science, education, and gastronomy with the world of art and sustainability.”

EXHIBITIONS

Since 2020, Fish Prints has been presented in a number of solo and group exhibitions. The principal solo exhibitions took place in 2023 at the Natural History Museum of Funchal and in 2024 at the Vila do Bispo Museum – Celeiro da História | Interpretation Centre.

Both public exhibitions welcomed more than 10,000 visitors over a combined period of six months and received coverage from national television as well as local media outlets.
